In former times, nutmeg used to be incredibly expensive, nowadays, you can find it in any spice range. "Nutmeg flowers", also known as mace, are actually the reddish shell of the nutmeg tree’s fruit and used to be erroneously considered the dried husk of the nutmeg’s flower. The fine, aromatic flavour is milder than that of the nutmeg and characterizes the Ayurvedic teachings as well as its cuisine as much as turmeric does.
