A coffee with low acidity, full-bodied and with a slightly "earthy" mouthfeel, herbal notes and a spicy aroma.

Indonesia Sumatra Raja Gayo coffee comes from the central part of Aceh province in the north of the island of Sumatra.

The favorable climatic conditions have long been exploited by the people of Central Aceh by growing coffee - their main source of income. About 85% of coffee production concerns arabica. This makes Central Aceh not only the largest producer of Arabica coffee in Indonesia, but also in the whole of Southeast Asia.

Sumatra Mandheling Raja Gayo coffee grows at an altitude of 1200+ meters above sea level and is produced by small independent coffee farmers, all members of a cooperative. Sumatra Mandheling Raja Gayo is a so-called semi-washed coffee. This means that the pulp of the coffee berry is removed after picking. The rest of the pulp is washed off by hand, after which the beans are left to dry. This drying often takes place in front of the farmer's house on plastic sheets. The beans are then harvested (= removal of the parchment from the coffee bean) while the beans still have a moisture percentage of 40-42%. Normally, coffee beans should be dehulled when the moisture content is around 18%. This particular way of processing the berries gives the coffee beans their famous bluish/green appearance and also contributes to the spicy flavor characteristic of Indonesian Arabica coffee.
